For the Good of the Hive

York, Maine -- A couple of bumble bees scour this flower for nectar and are cooperating with each other to do it. Sometimes it takes two.

This was taken near where I was on my way to visit my grandmother about an hour away, who had traveled 300 miles to visit her sister outside of Portland, when a guy ran a red light and slammed into me. [link] My mother and I were, amazingly enough, treated and released. My father and I had returned to that intersection to shoot some photos just in case we might need them. The rest of the summer was pretty much ruined.

I ask anyone who reads this to just remember, pay attention to your driving first and foremost. This guy was distracted and had a quarter of a mile to stop when the light turned red. People read things, do their hair, talk on the phone and text while driving and even if they think they are driving fine, studies repeatedly show you're just as impaired as you would be if you were drunk.
